On Monday 24. March, Maja Henriksen, Head of Sustainability and Green Energy at Baltic Control® Certification, had the pleasure of attending a meeting where an agreement was signed for the certification of the first RFNBO methanol facility in Africa. The project is expected to be completed in 2028 and has the potential to become the largest RFNBO fuel production facility in the world.
The APPL Hydropolis Project in Nigeria has officially been onboarded into the process of achieving ISCC EU certification, thereby committing to comply with international standards for sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions.
The certification will be conducted by Baltic Control® Certification
Signing the contract is a milestone, not only a major step for our client – APPL Hydrogen – but also for the entire African continent, which is strengthening its role in the global low-carbon economy.
The event took place in Copenhagen at the DFDS headquarters, with representatives from several international companies, as well as the Nigerian Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, who expressed full support for the project. “This is more than a celebration of our future certification — it is a powerful symbol of what is possible when African-led innovation meets global cooperation,” said Minister Uche Geoffrey Nnaji.
At Baltic Control® Certification we continue our commitment to the Power-to-X sector, supporting innovative and sustainable projects around the world, and now also in Africa.
